Sprite thirsty for comedy, NBA star in fresh ads - 2004-02-12
Coca-Cola is ready to start a new advertising push behind its Sprite brand, such as a TV ad featuring basketball star LeBron James.
The theme of the Sprite campaign is "Obey your thirst," a long-running tagline. The new spotlight of Sprite ads, however, is a character named "Miles Thirst."

Sprite has applied basketball as a tie-in for years, and James is the most recent star to have a promotional agreement. Coke still has a contract with beleaguered star Kobe Bryant but is not drawing on him in ads.

Six months ahead of Summer Games, athletes have safety concerns - 2004-02-12
Six months before the Summer Games, American athletes are beginning to worry. Athens just doesn't seem secure from afar, in spite of the most expensive security plan ever designed for an Olympics.
Among the most anxious are athletes who may be the top targets for terrorists -- NBA atheletes on the U.S. basketball team.

Basketball players and other athletes revealed to The Associated Press they are particularly worried because the games will be held near to the Middle East in a country with strong anti-American sentiment.
